In 2011 maakte ik vijf goudklompjes van gietpurschuim en bladgoud, als onderdeel van de serie Faux pas. Het combineren van het goedkope bouwmateriaal met kostbaar bladgoud werkte goed, omdat beide materialen zichtbaar bleven. Ik wist dat er bij de luster-techniek echt goud wordt gebruikt, en ik wilde de combinatie van waardevol goud met alledaagse klei verkennen — ook wetende dat goud van nature in, op of aan klei kan voorkomen. Bij het Europees keramisch Werkcentrum heb ik verschillende soorten klei samengevoegd, waardoor de klompjes een organische, bijna natuurlijke uitstraling kregen.

In 2011, I made five gold nuggets from polyurethane foam and gold leaf, as part of the Faux pas series. Combining the everyday construction material with precious gold leaf worked well, as both materials remained visible. I knew that real gold is used in the luster technique, and I wanted to explore the combination of valuable gold with clay—also being aware that gold can naturally be found in, on, or around clay. At the European Ceramic Work Centre, I combined different types of clay, giving the nuggets an organic, almost natural appearance.
